The Impact of Personality Cult in North Korea (Studies Series 04-03)

The Impact of Personality Cult in North Korea (Studies Series 04-03)

LITERARY CRIT CULT THEORY (SERIES) CL

Imago Dei

Imago Dei
In 726 the Byzantine emperor, Leo III, issued an edict that all religious images in the empire were to be destroyed, a directive that was later endorsed by a synod of the Church in 753 under his son, Constantine V. If the policy of Iconoclasm had succeeded, the entire history of Christian art--and of the Christian church, at least in the East--would have been altered. Iconoclasm was defeated--by Byzantine politics, by popular revolts, by monastic piety, and, most fundamentally of all, by theology, just as it had been theology that the opponents of images had used to justify their actions. Analyzing an intriguing chapter in the history of ideas, the renowned scholar Jaroslav Pelikan shows how a faith that began by attacking the worship of images ended first in permitting and then in commanding it. Pelikan charts the theological defense of icons during the Iconoclastic controversies of the eighth and ninth centuries, whose high point came in A.D. 787, when the Second Council of Nicaea restored the cult of images in the church. He demonstrates how the dogmas of the Trinity and the Incarnation eventually provided the basic rationale for images: because the invisible God had become human and therefore personally visible in Jesus Christ, it became permissible to make images of that Image. And because not only the human nature of Christ, but that of his Mother had been transformed by the Incarnation, she, too, could be "iconized," together with all the other saints and angels. The iconographic "text" of the book is provided by one of the very few surviving icons from the period before Iconoclasm, the Egyptian tapestry Icon of the Virgin now in the Cleveland Museum of Art. Other icons serve to illustrate the theological argument, just as the theological argument serves to explain the icons.

Customer Review: I'm sure it's great, but...
...Amazon sent me a box that only has Disc Two in it. I'll be sending it back, and get a proper one, but regarding the DVD, the DVD is awesome. 12 episodes, (I'm currently only seeing six, but Amazon's gonna be on that. Oh, yeah. THEY'RE GONNA BE ON IT) of the hatably-lovable fat, foul-mouthed little sociopath. Intros by the tubby little narcissist himself, and uncensored audio which is worth while, except for occuasional beeps that come up for some reason, but besides that uncensored. As far as I can see, there's one bleep in "Tonsil Trouble", one bleep in "Up the Down Steroid", as far as I can see. I'm sure I'm going to enjoy it immensely when i get it back the right way, so i'll further comment then.
Customer Review: Sweet...
Great DVD set. An avid South Park fan, I have yet to purchase any of the series on DVD. I will prob. break down some day and do it, but this is the best 'greatest hits' DVD set you could ask for. Great, great fun is to be had within this box. Eric Cartman is a truly amazing character. Content- 5 stars. Couldn't ask for more. Packaging- 5 stars (although case is larger than most DVD cases, this may irk some OCD collectors) Awesome show, great job!

Customer Review: PLEASE READ THE INDIAN EDITIONS INSTEAD
If you are reading my Ramayana series, then I gently urge and request you to please not buy the UK or US editions, even if they're available at bargain prices. Which they probably are, since the publishers there have more or less put the books out of print, due to a lack of interest by non-Indian readers. The Indian editions are the definitive editions of my work, containing a lengthy Introduction by me titled 'Retelling the Ramayana', which provides an essential perspective on the work, the final versions of all the books--including some small but significant changes, particularly in some book endings--no glossary, thank God, and are generally the best-edited, designed and published versions, in my opinion at least. In short, they're the Author's Preferred Edition, particularly the new hardcover omnibus editions, which represent the story in the way I had originally intended and are truly sumptuous to hold (and behold). Also, significantly, they aren't packaged as 'Fantasy' or 'SF' like the firang ones, which is a ridiculously transparent attempt at cashing in on the commercial success of the fantasy genre a la LoTR and Harry Potter. Please, people, my Ramayana series is a retelling of an epic, and that's exactly what it should be called, 'Epic'. I'd venture to call it 'Itihasa', but even Mythology, which is the label Penguin uses for the books here in India, is acceptable. But certainly not Fantasy as in one of the ubiquitous Tolkien rip-offs that are churned out in droves by western publishers, or even SF, both genres that can sometimes be wonderful in their own right, but are totally inappropriate in the context of an epic that pre-dates Tolkien by some thousands of years, and the entire tradition of western literature as well! Frankly, I feel so strongly about this that I'd even go so far as to say, if you can't get the Indian editions, then don't read the books! That's why I'm currently in the process of re-acquiring the rights to the US and UK editions and they will soon be out of print everywhere but India. Which is how it ought to be: this is a quintessentially Indian story, written by a contemporary Indian for other contemporary Indians to read. And the Indian editions are really the only way to go. Ashok K. Banker www.ashokbanker.com
Customer Review: Not as good as its predecessors, but still amazing!
This book wasn't as good as I expected it to be, and by Banker's standards, it was definitely below his usual talent. I especially didn't like the description of Hanuman as a scrawny, small vanar without any confidence. I also expected a mace fight between the exiled vanar king Sugriva and the evil usurper Vali. But no, instead, Sugriva never encounters Vali in a one-on-one, and the usurper is killed in a different fashion (how I will not tell you). However, that is not to say that the book is bad. In fact, if you did not have as high of expectations as I did, you will really enjoy it. The book starts off with the riveting conclusion to the Battle of Janasthana (which goes on for seven, awesome chapters). The abduction of Sita is superbly written, and I could read that part over and over again and still get chills. All in all, this book is highly recommended, but keep in mind (for those Ramayana fans) that this book does have its flaws.

This toy is verry well made he has a cold look of hate on his face and comes with lots of lil thinge you saw in the movie.....he is easy to pose and with all the stuff that comes with you can make a number of looks....for me I made a custom victom and have him holding the axe while holdind hands with the queen from 300 she is holding the nailgun so i give patrick bateman a 5 out of 5
Customer Review: Corporate Stiff
OK, now---& I'm willing to spot for chow at Dorsia if I'm wrong on this one---but didn't Patrick Bateman, Wall Street investment banker & Boy-next-Door by Day, bloodthirsty axe-wielding psychopath by Night---didn't our boy Patrick work out? No, I don't mean "work out" in the conventional 9-to-5 thing, though he did that as well, ultimate Master of the Universe & Big Swinging [expletive, figure it out] in Murders & Executions over at Pierce & Pierce---I mean, go to the gym, break a sweat, hit the stairmaster, work those thighs, those gluts, those pecs, those dorsal lateral incipital vorialuses, bench press 300, get to the point where he could do 200 ab crunches while chowing down on some Chinese (no MSG) while watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Yes? I thought so. The guy was limber. Well here's the bad news: while Patrick Bateman served up bodybags full of bloody stiffs, Patrick Bateman the action figure is---well, just a bloody corporate stiff. As in he doesn't move. As in, with this little outting, you're just getting a kind of---um, in-action figure. Non-action statue? Think: three (count 'em, 3!) points of articulation. The head---so Patrick can look a little pouty, or a little glowering, or a kind of ow-slung pouty-glowering combo---and the two wrists. And that's it. That's what you get. Yeah, I'm with you, man: abandon all Hope ye who Enter Here. Now: I give this little plastic Armani clad monster 3 stars because--well, it's always nice to have a little Patrick Bateman around. I position him to the right of one of my big-screen monitors, shiny stainless steel Axe poised for the death-stroke---which is really, given the 2 workable points of articulation, the only stroke he can take---and it's all good. Some of my colleagues came into my office the other day and overheard me consulting the old boy's opinion: Patrick, which would you recommend, the spinach swordfish arrugla or the crem de Lamprey? Blue Lapis cufflinks or those shiny sterling silver ones from Jermyn Street with the blue Fair-Isle french cuff dress shirt? Nail Gun or IED? Full-break or cuffs? I get a lot of quiet time now. So it's really the Best of Times, & the Worst of Times, and we're all Les Miserables: it's impossible to get Patrick to hold onto his tony little Gucci briefcase properly, you've got to switch out his hand to make the nail gun fit, the New York Times style section doesn't have any little hubs to hold the Boy Next Door steady, and you can't get the left arm to pivot, which would allow you to let Bateman bring his Brave & Shiny new Axe up over his uber-coiffed head for the True & Totally Fatal Death Blow. But it's the only Bateman doll we got, so as his younger brother Sean might say: Rock and Roll---deal with it. Consider it dealt. JSG

The Cassowary's Revenge: The Life and Death of Masculinity in a New Guinea Society (Worlds of Desire: The Chicago Series on Sexuality, Gender, and Culture)

The Cassowary's Revenge: The Life and Death of Masculinity in a New Guinea Society (Worlds of Desire: The Chicago Series on Sexuality, Gender, and Culture)
Donald Tuzin first studied the New Guinea village of Ilahita in 1972. When he returned many years later, he arrived in the aftermath of a startling event: the village’s men voluntarily destroyed their secret cult that had allowed them to dominate women for generations. The cult’s collapse indicated nothing less than the death of masculinity, and Tuzin examines the labyrinth of motives behind this improbable, self-devastating act. The villagers' mythic tradition provided a basis for this revenge of Woman upon the dominion of Man, and, remarkably, Tuzin himself became a principal figure in its narratives. The return of the magic-bearing "youngest brother" from America had been prophesied, and the villagers believed that Tuzin’s return "from the dead" signified a further need to destroy masculine traditions.

The Cassowary's Revenge is an intimate account of how Ilahita’s men and women think, emote, dream, and explain themselves. Tuzin also explores how the death of masculinity in a remote society raises disturbing implications for gender relations in our own society. In this light Tuzin's book is about men and women in search of how to value one another, and in today's world there is no theme more universal or timely.

Customer Review: A web of prophecy, and the death of an Old Man
This is an absolutely fascinating book. It tells how the men of Ilahita, a village in the Sepik region of Papua New Guinea, consciously and deliberately destroyed their secret men's cult (the Tambaran) by revealing its secret artifacts to the women. The book describes in a detailed but incredibly readable way how a prophecy contained at the end the Ilahita creation myth (involving the local lake and a Cassowary Woman) foretold the destruction of the cult, enmeshing the men and women of Ilahita on a downward spiral that even involves the anthropologist author in the second coming of the Cassowary Woman's "youngest son". It also describes the resulting damage to the village's gender dynamics, its cultural destruction at the hands of the Revival Christianity (now run by the women in a similar way to the method used by the men in the old Tambaran system), and the village's final loss of local power and land. Quite a tragic story, and one which has relevance to our own society's gender dynamics.

By the Sword: A Repairman Jack Novel (Repairman Jack)

By the Sword: A Repairman Jack Novel (Repairman Jack)

By the Sword takes up the adventures of Repairman Jack directly after Bloodline. Jack is hired to find a legendary Japanese sword, a katana stolen from the Hiroshima Peace Museum and brought to New York City. Central characters include the members of a weird Japanese cult, a young Japanese businessman and his three Yakuza bodyguards, plus Hank Thompson, the Kicker cult leader from Bloodline. The cult, the businessman, the Yakuza, and the Kickers are looking for the sword as well.

Also in the mix is the pregnant teenager carrying a child, loaded with abnormal DNA, who will be a decisive force in the cosmic shadow war raging behind the scenes. She becomes a pawn in the game, hunted by both sides. Following his usual m.o., Jack maneuvers all sides into a bloody melee from which he plans to waltz away with the fabled katana. Of course, when things don’t go as planned, Jack must improvise (and he hates to improvise). By the Sword takes F. Paul Wilson’s trademark breakneck pacing and interweaving storylines to a new level.

Customer Review: By the Sword
I was disappointed with By the Sword and the direction Wilson is taking the Jack as a character. I've read all the previous books loving the story lines where Repairman fixes other people's problems. These stories are clever and at time humorous (recalling the helicopter dropping used truck tires on a gangsters outdoor party LOL). I don't read the books for the fictional cosmic battles between good and evil that Jack got sucked into. This book wasn't fun at all to read, it was very dry and dark. I'm having serious doubts that I'll finish the set knowing there are only two or three volumes left. On the other hand I may just wait for the paperback versions so I can be disappointed as cheaply as possible.
Customer Review: Worthwhile continuation of the series
It's hard to rate this book higher than 4 stars, just because it doesn't really feel "complete". But it is a worthy addition to the series, answering many questions without really introducing too many new ones. The "Kicker" movement is explained, as is (at least in part) the women with the dog. And it is an action filled tale; plenty is happening, and Jack seems to be right in the middle of everything. It was a fun read, and at some point for me, became a "can't put it down" type of read. I'm looking forward to the other final books of the series. Not a book to read as a standalone, for sure. You really need the context of the earlier novels. But if you have that context, you're going to enjoy this one.

The Devil
Readers enter the realm of the Prince of Darkness, but their journey will be a safe one if they keep within the pages of this fascinating volume. It's an entertaining chronicle that reviews both the legends and the religious beliefs about devils—a vast array of lore that dates back thousands of years and endures to the present day. Here are accounts of the Judeo-Christian Satan as he appears in the Old and the New Testaments. Here too are accounts of the dibbuk, from Eastern European Jewish folklore . . . the Hindu asuras, who are said to be frightening goblinlike spirits . . . Mara, the leader of an army of demons in the Buddhist tradition . . . the powerful jinni of Islamic folklore . . . and even Lilith, a female personification of a devil, believed by some Jewish scholars to have been Adam's first wife and a killer of children. This compendium of demonic information includes true tales of devil worship and witch hunts, as well as quotations about demons from famous literary works, legends from around the world, discussion of demonic imagery, and many atmospheric full-color illustrations.

Very interesting look at Demon and Satanic history, extremely informative. A fun book as well, many pictures that accompany the information. Recommended to those with an interest in dark fabled history.
Customer Review: Nicely Illustrated Introduction to the History of the Devil
Amelia Wilson's illustrated history of the Devil is a wonderful intoduction to the myth of the Archfiend as he appears throughout history and across religions and cultures. The book examines the origins of the concept and idea of "the Devil" in ancient Sumerian/Babylonian myth and its influence on ancient Judaism and Zoroastrianism. Wilson shows that in the Hebrew Bible, contrary to popular belief, Satan appears only as a servant of God, and not as an all powerful individual entity of pure evil. In fact, Satan serves a relatively minor role in ancient Judaism. It is only with the advent of Christianity that Satan takes on such a prominent role in worldly and spiritual affairs, tempting mankind to sin and thus seducing inumerable souls into the firey pit of Hell. It shows briefly how the idea and image of the Devil himself changes over time, from early Christian traditions to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, and finally to modern times, where the image of the Devil has largely lost its diabolic element and has been reduced to an advertising ploy and horror film cliche. Wilson also quickly examines the history of Satanism and its impact on history, perceived and real, and the Devil's role in the witchcraze of the 16th and 17th centuries. Overall, a nice and generously illustrated, but ultimately short book that draws essentially on secondary sources. For a much more in depth investigation into the history and mythology of Satan, I recommend Jeffery B. Russell's "The Prince of Darkness", a fantastic book that fleshes out many of the concepts only lightly touched upon here.

Customer Review: Does the Watchtower know....
To the many Witnesses on this site I want to ask: Does the Watchtower know that you are surfing the web? You are not allowed to read anything but approved Watchtower literature. What are you doing on Amazon looking at Satanic books?
Customer Review: A great read
I've found this book to be very helpful in my study of the Watchtower organization. A great read for those who are may have encountered a Jehovah's Witness for the first time or are unfaimliar with the religion, as it offers a brief history of the organization, and analyzes many of their doctrines. As you may have noticed, all the negative reveiws of this book offer no real supporting evidence for their claims of the book being "distorted, inaccurate regurgitations of half truths". I DID go to the JW"s for the "facts", and almost became a member of a local congregation. Praise the Lord Jesus for keeping from making the biggest mistake of my life. This book is a welcome addition to any Christian's library.

Without Bounds: The Life and Death of Rabbi Ya'Aqov Wazana (Raphael Patai Series in Jewish Folklore and Anthropology)

Without Bounds: The Life and Death of Rabbi Ya'Aqov Wazana (Raphael Patai Series in Jewish Folklore and Anthropology)
Without Bounds illuminates the life of the mysterious Rabbi Ya'aqov Wazana, a great Jewish healer who worked in the Western High Atlas region in southern Morocco and died there in the early 1950s. Wazana is remembered by Moroccan Jews now living in Israel's urban and rural peripheries. Impressed by his healing powers and shamanic virtuosity, they are intrigued by his lifestyle and contacts with the Muslim and the demonic worlds that dangerously blurred his jewish identity. Based on interviews with Moroccan Jews conducted in the late 1980s, Without Bounds proposes multiple readings of Wazana's life. Yoram Bilu recreates the influences and important moments in Wazana's life and evaluates his character from psychological and anthropological perspectives. Human and demon-bound, holy and impure, Jew and Muslim, old and young, Rabbi Ya'aqov Wazana dissolved the boundaries of the major social categories in Morocco and integrated them into his identity. Without Bounds will fascinate the lay reader interested in mysticism as well as scholars of anthropology, comparative religion, Judaism, and contemporary Jewish and Israeli history.

Founders' Cults in Southeast Asia: Ancestors, Polity, and Identity (Southeast Asia Studies Monograph Series)
Founders' cults throughout Southeast Asia are based on the contract between the original founder or founders of a settlement and the spirit owner or owners of territory cleared for human use. The establishment and enactment of these cults reflect relationships with founding ancestors and with neighboring polities. Founders' cults are implicated in defining both ethnic identity and interethnic relations. Changes in the cults involve the representation of identity through the enactment of traditional local custom in response to European colonialism, world religions, and the penetration of global capitalism. Here, through comparative inquiry and ethnographic case studies, ten anthropologists examine founders' cults in mainland and insular Southeast Asia.

The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies

Customer Review: It really is as bad as everyone says it is.
The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!? (Ray Dennis Steckler, 1963) This is another case of me watching a movie that has been universally panned thinking "it really can't be all that bad, can it?" Yes, yes it is. Director Steckler (whose thirty-year-plus Hollywood career contained such highlights as Debbie Does Las Vegas and Teenage Dessert) does double-duty as the film's lead character, Jerry, a lunkhead who does most of his thinking below the belt. He, his roommate Harold (Atlas King), and his girlfriend Marge (Carolyn Brandt) head to the fair one night to see what's happening. After a rather strained session with fortune teller Madame Estrella (Brett O'Hara, suffering from what I assume is the worst make-up job in history), the group split up, with Harold taking Marge home after a fight with Jerry, who wants to see the girlie show. A little setup, and Jerry is back in Madame Estrella clutches, hypnotized into becoming a hit man for her. Now where, you might ask, are the zombies in that synopsis? Well, they're nowhere. (They do put in a small appearance towards the end of the film, to be fair.) They're pretty pathetic zombies, and the musical numbers (yes, the musical numbers!) get more screen time than the zombies. The acting is terrible, the direction is awful, the technical aspects of the film range from hideous to terrifying (not in the way Steckler intended, I'm sure). This is one movie that thoroughly deserves its reputation; it's probably good to have on in the background at a party where the main goal is everyone getting as drunk as possible, but I can't see any other uses for it that makes sense. Customer Review: The Incredibly Bad Film Which Will Bore You and Become a Cinematic Endurance Test
Yes, The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies. I recently picked this up very cheap at my local Family Video since they are clearing out B films like this to make room for a Blu Ray shelf. I had to pick it up since I love B films and had always heard of this movie but never had a chance to see it. What can I say, Ugggh......Uggh! This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. One, the acting is horrible. Normally in these movies the acting makes you laugh occasionally, but in this it's just dull, very dull. Two, Why is this called a monster musical? There are no monsters involved in musicals! There are a couple dance numbers by showgirls, but they are 100% NOT MONSTERS!!! Was there a plot to this movie? It just seems they said "hey, lets turn on the camera and lets see what happens" The film bounces around from bad edit to bad edit. Also,if you are expecting anything close to a "zombie",you won't find it here,at the end of the movie I guess these guys in pirate outfits in cheap Walgreens halloween masks are suppose to be zombies. This movie is so bad,you can put it in with the likes of "Manos, Hands of Fate" and "The Undertaker and His Pals". Trust me, if you are in for a (very) slow moving and boring B film endurance test, this is your thing.

Customer Review: Don't make me use my stuff on ya, baby!
This high-praise review was a foregone thing as I've been a big Bruce Campbell fan for years. This figure is from the film Bubba Ho-Tep which is an absolute scream. I purchased this figure as a compantion Christmas gift to a copy of Bubba Ho-Tep in the special Elvis costume packaging and it went over excellently. I see this figure fits in a larger display, but I have no idea how that looks... but if it's a good as this figure, it's probably good too.

Cult Classics 7" Tall Man - Phantasm
Neca Cult Classic Series 2 7 Inch action figure Tallman from the movie Phantasm
Price: $19.99
Customer Review: Tall Mania
This is a long overdue Phantasm figure, and it is well worth the wait. This is one of my favorite villains, and The Tall Man is placed proudly at my cubicle at work, with the little Low n Brown effectively hiding behind a potted plant - and the Low n Brown is much creepier when hidden away, as is proper for the monster. As for the Tall Man monster - he is wonderfully lanky and long, his body suiting the character's ambient stance. He stands as Angus stands, and the head works for Tall Man expressions. Nice and formal - not a lot of goofy kidstuff...just a simple, expressive Tall Man - as it should be. More for display, by a long shot. I love it. We need a Kid Michael and and Adult Michael, and definitely a Reggie or two. For the true Phan, this is a promising sign of toys to come..!
Customer Review: Great product for a Great price
If you are a fan of the phantasm movies then you will definitely love this product. The figures look just like they do in the movie with alot of detail. This product is more for collectors and not really suitable for use as a childs toy. The only downside to this product is the base is not of the same quality as the rest of the product, still for the price, and the incredible likeness of the characters, the problem with the base is not really a big deal.

E.W. Kenyon Cult Founder or Evangelical Minister (The Refleks Series, Number 2)

E.W. Kenyon Cult Founder or Evangelical Minister (The Refleks Series, Number 2)
An historical analysis of Kenyon's theology with particular emphasis on roots and influences.
Used Price: $29.50
Customer Review: a must for anyone reading up on Kenyon
This book probably offers the most balanced view of Kenyon's teaching and influence. Lie's book is good biography, and a good detailed explanation of Kenyon's teachings, and continuing influence. He does not critique Kenyon's distinctive teachings, but instead explains them in detail using many quotations from Kenyon's books. The book was translated to English. As a result it's a bit less of a breezy read. Nevertheless, the subjects are very well divided and ID'd, and it's great to refer back to. I agree with everything the previous reviewer states so I won't be redundant and repeat it:) I'd put this book squarely in the middle of the McIntyre and Simmons books: not as enthusiastic on Kenyon as the former, nor as cautious as the latter. Lie sees Kenyon as a treasure-bearing jar of clay. I got my copy of the Lie book thru Refleks and got the privilege to communicate a bit with the author while waiting for the book to arrive. Nice guy. Helpful too.
Customer Review: (From My Web Page)
After a published thesis by an Oral Roberts University student that accused E. W. Kenyon of incorporating in metaphysical cultic practices (like New Thought and Christian Science), universalism, Gnosticism, and other aberrancies into his Christian teaching, the Faith Movement, which he allegedly founded, became suspect. In many Christian circles, some looked at the movement as an outright cult. A number of writers and "apologists" afterwards would use this ORU student's thesis as a foundation for their own "battle" against the popular Word-Faith Movement. While many in the Faith Movement were able to ignore the charges of cultic roots in the movement they were aligned with and went on in their faith, many others forsook the movement altogether, believing that they had been deceived. Geir Lie also went through a crisis. However, rather than just simply ignoring the accusation or altogether forsaking Kenyon, Lie decided to investigate this ORU student's claims. The results of his investigation demonstrated that beyond a shadow of a doubt Kenyon was not a founder of a new pseudo-Christian cult, but an Evangelical minister. This book will bless those who already believe in their hearts that Kenyon was a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ as it makes a scholarly, informative, and solid case. For those who have had doubts and struggle with the rumors concerning Kenyon, Lie can relate. His findings will comfort your heart and will bring you out of the "crisis mode." For those who will not be convinced no matter what, buy the book anyway. At least you can say that you checked all sources as you continue to oppose the movement. Lie traces Kenyon's theological roots to the Holiness, Higher-Life, and Faith-Cure Movements. He Lie documents Kenyon's associations with well-known Evangelical leaders such as S. D. Gordon, A. B. Simpson, R. A. Torrey, F. B. Meyer, Andrew Murray, and many others. Lie is able to disconnect Kenyon from the false accusations surrounding his theological roots and demonstrate to the reader that Kenyon, though unique in some of his thoughts and teachings, was indeed an Evangelical, Bible believing minister of the gospel. While Lie defends Kenyon, some readers may be concerned that he accepts the charges of plagiarism against Hagin. Lie agrees with the critics that these plagiarisms are "conscious and deliberate." Being one who feels a spiritual debt to Hagin, I personally believe that the jury is still out on this one. Nevertheless, Lie does not spend lot of material on this (less than two pages - pages 129, 130) and I believe that he attempts to be charitable to Hagin. Along with Joe McIntyre's book, E. W. Kenyon and His Message of Faith: The True Story, I recommend Geir Lie's book in defending Kenyon as an Evangelical minister. After reading Lie's book, you will begin to enjoy Kenyon once again as a man who attempted to stay true to scriptural integrity.

First and Foremostly, I respect and highly admire Mr. Martin. He is well educated in the field of Cults and Occults, and he is a gifted speaker(raconteur). This Book Lays out pretty much all of the beliefs of the Mormon religion and cleverly compares the religion to the scriptures. A GREAT Gift Idea for any Mormon you may know.

Saints (Chambers Compact Reference Series)
Focusing on saints, this is one of a series which provides a broad spectrum of knowledge encompassing science, the arts, religion and social issues. The information is presented in sections designed for ease of access.
List Price: $9.95
Used Price: $0.01
Customer Review: A good overview of (primarily) Western saints
Whatever it defects may be, I think this is a good reference companion for the beginner to succinctly see the historical significance of Western saints, some well known to many, others not as well known.
Customer Review: Butler's Lives of the Saints it is not
This compact reference book could not be more compact or less reference worthy. Featuring brief biographies of more than 200 saints this book adds little to what can be found in more reference worthy collections. The biographies use the word "legend" a little too freely without backing up the reference with a resource. The kindest thing I can say about this collection is that some of the black and white art which graces its pages are more inspirational than the hagiographies.
